Embrace Matronly?

IMG_0375-1024x1024…Never. And that’s a very long time. A beautiful woman, early sixtyish, elegantly saunters in to the salon.  So happy to see each other after having not seen her in a few months, (her usual lapse between haircuts,) we embark on the plan for her long tresses. Almost pleading, she says to me, “I just love my long hair! It works for me, It’s easy. I clip it back, blow dry it, curl it, and in the humidity its even better!”  So the question for me resurfaces, time and aga
in. At what age do we have to embrace “matronly?” Dress like a “middle aged” woman? Cut all our hair off to conform to… what!? I suppose the most important question that I consider is; if you are not ready to embrace a drastic change, it will be difficult to be comfortable in a shorter “do.” anyway. So why bother lopping it all off? I don’t think that longer or shorter hair necessarily designates a matronly look either. In fact, I say..WOMAN! LET IT GO! This has nothing to do with your age! I find that clients are sometimes quite liberated when we go even the slightest bit shorter. The look can be fresh, edgy and often leaves  one looking and feeling lighter, younger, that is, without cutting it all off! And a more drastic change, much shorter, can still be quite edgy too! So, the long and the short of it is, pun intended, this aging thing, with regard to the length of your hair is negotiable. It’s really about how we feel about ourselves. Where we’re at in our lives. Do we feel good? Healthy? Are we feeling old? Then get out and change something. Change your hair, a little snap can go a long way! Do a spin class! Do a yoga class! Reinvent yourself. Change your attitude, make a gratitude list. What ever you do, DO NOT embrace Matronly, you beautiful thing, you!
